Leadership Spotlight

Terry Neill

Chief Operating Officer, Critical National Infrastructure

“The most complex technology programmes are rarely defined by the technology itself. Success depends on aligning people, processes and platforms while maintaining operational continuity throughout the change. Whether delivering large-scale modernisation, supporting a business through acquisition or divestment, or helping customers make the right technology investments, our focus is always on achieving the intended outcome with clear governance, controlled risk and confidence at every stage of delivery. We bring together deep technical expertise, programme leadership and sector experience to help organisations execute change in some of the UK’s most complex and highly regulated environments.”

More Information

A typically carve-out and integration takes around six to twelve months, depending on estate complexity. We can compress this timeline in some cases by running discovery, design and procurement concurrently rather than sequentially. Procurement can be the longest lead item in transitions, so ordering against an early bill of materials means build can begin on time to avoid delays.

This varies by sector, but typically includes NSTA approvals in energy, NIS2 and UK NIS requirements for operators of essential services, and COMAH obligations on hazardous sites. Sword builds the evidence trail as the programme progresses, so regulatory sign-off is a confirmation of work already done rather than a complex excersise at the end.

It means the business can run, not just that systems are live. Sword’s definition includes a tested support operating model, trained users, established service management processes, documented knowledge transfer, and regulatory sign-off obtained. Readiness is proven before the completion date rather than discovered afterwards.
