In Athens, Greece, we met Alexius Diakogiannis, Senior Architect. He was glad to answer our questions about his journey at Sword!

Hello Alexius, can you present yourself?

Hi, I am Alexius from Athens, Senior Architect in Sword Greece, I am 40 years old and I am a rookie runner, a passionate archer, a linux lover and a Java Geek !

You arrived at Sword a year and a half ago, can you tell us more about your role and your journey within the team?

I joined Sword because of its reputation and because it is a multicultural and multinational organisation with cutting edge projects. It is therefore well aligned with my personal goal to develop myself in an environment that will educate me within an enterprise mentality. I enjoy the organisation and structure of the company.  So far the journey is great.

What are your missions?

So far, I have been involved in many demanding projects and multiple roles in an agile mentality and when needed case by case. From writing architecture documents for proposals to team leading and pure development.

Tell us about your team atmosphere!

The atmosphere and the support of the team is amazing. Each member tries to motivate the others in all aspects, no matter if this is work related or not. You can find motivation and support if you want to learn something new, if you want to run or even find a travel companion. I even had a colleague, George, who when I wanted to lose weight and become fit, was with me in the gym every single day so that I wouldn’t lose my motivation. Thanks George! This, you only find in a family.

Can you tell us a few words about the region? What is your opinion on the city and its surroundings?

Sword is located in a nice part of Athens with lots of things to do around. Athens is a great city with quite an active night life, warm and sunny most of the year, surrounded by the sea and close to beautiful islands. A visit to Athens is certainly not complete without a visit to the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum, the Ancient Agora, and the Roman Agora. A very convenient town for walking as all sights are in close distance to each other.

What would you say to a candidate to convince him·her to join Sword in Greece?

Sword is a great place to work and develop at all levels. The variety of projects and the team atmosphere is ideal for professional and personal development. It was one of my best choices.

One last word?

Actually three…

  1. If you want to be a good developer try to commit, review code and be a contributor to as many open source projects as possible. It will make you a better developer and it will also help you develop a sharing and collaboration mentality.
  2. If you cannot find the solution to a specific problem, try to run a few kilometers. It works way better than “Rubber duck debugging” and it feels better as well
  3. Join Sword!
